Varalakshmi Puja Saree!

Last Friday was Varalakshmi Puja and had kept me quite busy in Puja preparations, then Puja and then taking care of all relatives, it was quite an exhausting day, more so because i had spent the day before working on the Blouse of the saree i am seen flaunting in this post. This was the saree i wore on Puja day.

I wanted to show how you can stitch saree fall in the machine itself by stitching it in straight stitch at the bottom end of the fall and the top end instead of hand-stitching i use the blind-hem foot and set the machine to blind hem stitch settings on my machine Singer MARS 5800 model

Stitch Type - C
Stitch Width - 2.5
Length -  2.5 and
needle position center

Pin the fall to saree to put in place and do the blindstitch by making sure the straight stitches are in the fall and just the tip of the zig zag touches the saree and viola there you have it almost invisible stitches at the right side of the Saree !

Sister wears Saree - For the first time to her office

Had stitched a gold color blouse (generic and can be mix matched easily). Sister had not worn a saree to office till date and this blouse, may be urged her to wear it and she did, even though the saree and blouse don't match exactly, these days it is so chic to be seen in contrast blouse and saree, nevertheless it looked so good on her.

my little sister has grown so big, time flies....

Designer Ready to Wear Saree

Just the pics, i have requested my sister to give a write up on this one.
Quote my Sister - "Every Indian woman spends on an average of 3 minutes to drape into a Saree. On a worst-case scenario, it takes even longer based on the flow of the Material. Having all the pleets in tact for an entire event  is another challenge. These are predominantly why a Modern Woman prefers a Salwar over a Saree. Not anymore!!! - Unquote

This has been my creation right from sketch to end product. I have been wanting one of those RTW lehenga saree types for long time now. So i decided to make one for myself. I had bought this plain faux goergette puple saree long back and decided to use it for this project.

Project RTW Saree was born ; Time taken - one day for concept. one day for drafting pattern, one day for finetuning and sketching pattern on to fabric. 8 days for all the bead work (outsourced, design chosen and given)
2 days to assemble the garment. Thanks to my little sister who worked as my apprentice doing all the hardwork (Read Handwork) involved.

Pallu Honeycomb arrangement was made her fully using handwork. Beadwork was done by my zardosi friend's able craftisans.

Oh i have already written a lot, now over to my sister, who will send me a write up on this one. after all this is one big achievement to have a concept and draft and materialize it into an outfit.
See the write up at the end. with excerpts at the top

My Sister's write up on this project

"Every Indian woman spends on an average of 3 minutes to drape into a Saree. On a worst-case scenario, it takes even longer based on the flow of the Material. Having all the pleets in tact for an entire event  is another challenge. These are predominantly why a Modern Woman prefers a Salwar over a Saree. Not anymore!!!

What Akka has designed here is Ready to Wear. It gives you the feel of wearing a skirt and yet flaunting a Saree. Want to know how it is done? Akka comes out with her creative design, she then cuts & drafts the saree material. The material is then sent to Jardosi Professionals who adorn it as per the requested design.
After it is back from the Jardosi House, the real stitching takes place.

The drafted segments are stitched in such a way that it potrays the effect of the Design, like the art work highlighted only on the thighs in the Saree shown in picture. Meticulous design is also imparted to the Pallu of the Saree - like the honey comb you see.
Though it takes days to stitch, it takes just a minute to wear! Wear the Skirt, yet flaunt a Saree!!!
Great job Akka!!!"

--- Hey thanks little sis.

Saree Day!

Well actually i am not much of a saree person. I do wear it for formal occasions and during festivals and weddings. Day in day out you would find me in Salwar kameez or pyjama and top.

So why would this post be called 'Saree Day' then 'coz these sarees actually made my day. They are so beautiful. They belong to one of my clients. She has such a good taste i should say. I haven't started on the blouses for 2 of these sarees. Will post them once completed. As of now have a look at the 3 sarees and one of the finished blouses.

Hope all the fitting issues of the sleeve get solved in this blouse. Please god...

Veena Motif Saree - My favourite

Saree 2 - Simple saree, but that's what makes it
special. Classic it stands out! Kanjeevaram Silk Speaks....doesn't it.
