Deepavali Sewing - Adithis Outfit

Adithi's outfit was the last to be made in the series of Deepavali outfits!. Unusual as i usually sew up her outfit first, but since i had made the elaborate Birthday dress and then the pirate costume, had to give a break to sewing her outfit so that i can come back with fresh ideas

Made the skirt part quite easily as the design was just the same i had used in previous ghaghra choli which she wore for Dance Competition.

Yoke at front skirt and elasticated yoke at back wasit with pleated lower skirt (knife pleasts)

For the top i was bit skeptical if can keep it as tie up as that would render the blouse unwearable at school, but still decided to go ahead as the fabric was silk brocade and hence would require some breathing space to make her feel comfortable.

The  top is fully lined. Piped Neckline and hemline. with contrast drawstring tie up closure at back

The part which took the most amount of time in taking a decision was the sleeves, i was caught between puff sleevs, sleeveless and some other sleeve option. Then decided to use self faced cap sleeve, which makes it modest and yet still gives her the comfort . glad i choose this as it works like magic when i had used the left over silk fabric from the bottom part of my Deepavali Dress.

Fabric covered buttons are my latest craze and hence they get featured in this outfit too to break the montony of the print in brocade fabric and add some visual interest at the front and that's it the top was ready just a day before Deepavali, late into the night ! Last minute sewing before any festival or celebration has become my Trademark style ;)

Oh yes how did i forget those danglings at the end of the tie backs at the back of the blouse are actually brocade fabric covered buttons, handsewn wrong side facing each other, together !!! the top dori at the neckline also has ghunghrros as she loves the tinkling sound of them.

All in all , Adithi loved dancing around in the outfit, so i am happy and relieved too.

Sisters Deepavali Outfit and the Longest Sewing hours taken for this year - the Birthday Dress inspired by Princess Aurora coming up soon ...stay tuned

Deepavali Outfits - more pics!

More snaps of Deepavali outfits

It was raining all day and for a brief period of about half an hour the sun was out and we rushed to take snaps (Adithi was sleeping then, hence could not take much photos of her on Deepavali! At night when she did burst sparklers there are snaps, but not in Deepavali outfit, she has worn that to school today so hope to take some snaps in evening!)

We had got used to the gloomy day and the sudden rays of sun made our eyes blush!

oh! what a floppy picture isn't it?

Now it is my sister's turn!

Meet "Jaga Jaga and Cute Paavadai"(Titled by Adithi!) 'Jaga Jaga' means glittery with zari all around!

Front View

BackView

Close up of Top

Close up of Zari work in skirt

Zari border has been covered with Saree Falls! her anklets do some damage to the zari in her previous Pattu Paavadai, so lesson learnt, cover it with Saree Falls!

and it also has been lined all through to prevent the zari work from itching my darling daughter's skin!

This is the last outfit i managed to sew this week , will post the outfits sewn earlier soon ! Plan to do a matching potli bag to go with this outfit!

Watch out for more .... (2 salwar kameez sets, 2 silk blouses etc., Deepavali Releases ... coming soon ...!)

Dazzling Deepavali - Shopping Part I

The last weekend was dedicated to Deepavali Shopping, though it was tiring, it was fun as well.

Purchased lot of fabrics from Thakurdas Choithram (my fav fabric shop in town) on Saturday and had loads of chat at Gangotree to rejuvenate myself for more shopping on Sunday as well

On Sunday did some shopping for Sarees & Pattu Paavadai Material from RMKV Chennai.

Here is a glimpse of few of those in my stash now, being given special attention for Deepavali ofcourse....

Saree for MIL which is searched with the scrap bit fabric of the material left after finish her blouse... first time i searched for Saree  with a ready blouse to match for... it was exciting

Pallu of MIL's Saree

Kora Saree for Sister (she got one more, will post it later!)

Mom's Silk Blouse which is my Current WIP

Pattu Paavadai for Darling Daughter,

Will try to do a tute on how to make Pattu Paavadai as i cut & sew this, as it may be a while before i sew another Pattu Paavadai set; why 'coz she already has 2 other new ones (courtesy: Navarathri) and wears it only on festivals or weddings so... they will only be sitting idle in her wardrobe, so no more Pattu Paavadais till she outgrows them... and did you have a look at the Sneak Peak of Tutorials planned, do vote for your choice. The poll is on my sidebar at the top and is open until Deepavali.

Few of the fabrics (Believe me i have got loads of them, will share  it later as busy with Deepavali right now). BTW these fabrics except for green brocade are the ones i plan to use for making the special birthday ball gown for my DD on her b'day which also falls on Deepvaali  day....

The blouse for MIL's saree was finished sometime in September,

I actually have a story to tell as to how i got the saree for this blouse...

Dazzling Deepavali ....

This weekend i will be busy shopping for Deepavali which falls on November 5. Deepavali is a festival celebrated by Indians all over the world, usering prosperity & well being, marking end of evil by good. Enough of my 'gyan' on 'Deepavali' or should i say 'Diwali' its more famous alias... just google it to get more detailed information on the festival.

As a kid i used to look forward to Deepavali every year for 3 reasons
