Kitty Party Skirt N Top :)

Self-Love promise that i had made has been a blessing. My wardrobe is showing improvements. The latest addition is the skirt which was made under 2 hours, simple A-Line maxt skirt, the fabric has pre-folds and stretches , making it easier to draft with leeway for minor adjustments :) Tieup bow belt at the front was last minute addition

I had got this skirt fabric ages back along with the fabric using which i had made the bow neck diagonal stripes kurta for my sister. So finally its time to bask in limelight had come. After having made the skirt, i didnt want to compromise on its look by pairing it with a tee, this required a top of its own and what else can be more versatile than a white top.

So how do i make a plain white top stand out without adding embellishments, hmm use Pattern Magic, so i followed the Cowl neckline with assymetric facing as reference and tweaked the cowl line a little to get the kind of neckline with interesting yet subtle design element, that i was looking for.
The top took 3 hours to make, of which most time was spent on drafting. What would i like to change, well... i would like to make it as underlining, instead of facing next time, this pattern is one for keeps, and you will see a lot more tops in similar neckline soon. will post a separate pic of the top with dark background so that you can see the cowl drape more clearly.

Image from Pattern Magic i opted for the asymetric facing

Now the skirt and top was ready to be worn, i wanted it to be an occassion to make its debut, so when this kitty party came up, i thought it was the perfect day to dress up and show myself some self love, i did two homemade masks this past week to be able to match up to this outfit ;)

All set to flaunt the new outfit but at the very last minute, i had second thoughts, now wait a minute, just look at the swim tan on my hands, and I have made yourself a sleeveless top, oh no , what to do now, make a shrug and cover up those tan lines but still let the neckline of the top speak up.

How to do that, something which is sheer and stretchy so that it covers my back and hangs on the sleeeve cap, just about hiding the skin shade change, without blocking the front view of the neckline. guess what , this was the easiest to make and i made the shrug in under 15 minutes and wore it hot off the sewing machine and rushed to the party :)

Yes, life has changed a lot for me after relocating to KL. I attend kitty parties now, it will surprising to people who know me from Chennai, i had never ever attended kitty parties back home, in fact had gone in to a shell after i had quit working and hardly mingled with other ladies in my residential colony, there was also another angle to it as the colony lobby back in chennai was notorious for its gossip mongers and i hate gossip , so i opted to stay out of it. Moreover my MIL would go down to the lobby along with my daughter , when she goes to play, so it may have unknowingly made me to stay back at home. All these are things that i realize now after having moved away from there...

Earlier when i was in school and college, i loved being in a team, being in the limelight, mingling with people, participating in competitions, that persona in me had slowly faded off in the joint family setup after marriage, child birth, less personal time, but with new found private space , it feels like I have regained my long forgotten outgoing persona :)

I love the bunch of friends i have made here, they are there for you , yet respect your privacy and most importantly no gossip , so its my kind of bunch of people, hence easier to mingle. Look forward to the kitty parties every month and hope to add a new outfit specially made for it, good enough excuse to help improve my wardrobe isn't it?

I have more colors to me and plan to reveal my colorself and enjoy the gifts of life, coz its just one life to live ...so i have plan to live it, get ready for more self love as high-low skirts, elegant tops are coming up next week

Falalalalalalala- Christmas Celebrations @ school

Deck the hall with bows of holly
Falalalalalalala !
Tis' the season to be Jolly
Falalalalalalala !
Don we now our Gay Apparel
Falalalalalalalala !
Troll the ancient Christmas Carol
Falalalalalalala .

Yes! Its time for Christmas Cheer as the school closes officially tomorrow for X-mas vacation and they have a gathering for singing Christmas Carols. Dress code is either Red / White / Green to symbolise the festive season.

Adithi does not have a Red dress in the recent past, the last one i made in Red and white was for Pongal 2011 (January) which can be seen here in this post. Actually quite surprising, because she loves red, but had recently drifted more towards purple and pink! We had left the red and white dress back home in India and will be bringing her heavy dresses / ball gowns back when we go home during holidays!

Hence i had the right excuse to make another dress for her, this was made in limited time (my sewing hours has shrinked a lot ever since we relocated to KL. This outfit was made in 2 days (read 5 sewing hours)

The bodice design using lace was the only clear design i had in mind, when i started and the skirt was the quickest to make being a full circle skirt. I had got 1.5 metres, which used to enough earlier for Adithi!, surprisingly this time it didn't fit, for she has grown tall and i forgot to get extra fabric and hence instead of ball gown, this will more of 3/4 length gown, which actually suits the occasion fine as she will be able to move freely in school.

BACK VIEW

The neck design was last minute addition. Actuallly wanted to add the ruffle lace at the frock hemline as well but did not have enough to cover the circle skirt circumference of 3.5 metres! Also a white belt was also in mind, in fact she already has one made for the Back to School Dress (but i guess we have left it back home as well!, need to pack a lot of her wardrobe this time!) , the belt had to be missed as i did not have any interfacing. But the end look is just right to be worn at school !

So how do i feel after having made the dress in a hurry! - well to be quite honest, exhausted, alongside i am also elated as it was well received by Adithi, she was so excited, that she tried it on the moment she saw it after coming back from school and asked me to take a photo shoot (hence the unkempt hair!) and willingly stuck lot of poses! Quite a rarity these days...

God knows if she will be so generous tomorrow as she will be in the "Oh i need to go to school, please no..." mood in the morning tomorrow! Hmm she is used to wearing color dress in her earlier Montessori school and after having moved here, she has to wear Uniform daily, which does not go down well with her, this is the second occasion after Deepavali, wherein she gets to wear color dress to school, i hope that is reason enough to keep her in good spirits tomorrow morning, she has gone to bed early, as i type this post, as she wants to wash her hair and set it free, to set the tone for the color dress !

So the dress shots and the impromptu action shots as of now ...

She loves twirly dresses ....

BTW please do Participate in the Pochee Japanese Sewing Magazine Giveaway which will end on 21st Dec 2012.

Today's Action Shots - As expected she was moody and hence teeny weeny smile !

She is trying ... and we do see slight improvement, as in she recoups herself after a while say first hour at school, i am not going to drop her these days, her dad alone goes to drop her at school, and she says that is helping her, as she is not feeling so bad to go into the class as she had already left me behind at home and does not feel that sudden feeling of leaving me at school ... oh my little one .. how i wish i could just wipe away her fears, may be this is also for good , as it is helping her learn life skills, which shall keep her in good stead in future.

Purple 'N' Pink Pettiskirt with Top

This one is for a sweet little 1 year old to be worn on her first b'day!  - Custom Order and am so happy with the end result.

Top is made from lace which is interlined with crepe and underlined with cotton

Did you notice the cupcake applique with purple ruffle icing with a candle on top signify the 1st B'day!?

To ensure it is comfortable for the little one and make it easy to put it on and take it off, have added a back slit with loop tie closure.

Poofy pettiskirt gobbled up 7 metres of fabric! (It's height is mere 9 inches!) Satin waistband tier, followed by 2 tiers of purple ruffles and the bottom tier has the pink ruffle fluff to make it even more fluffier, what's more this is not in just one layer but has layers, to add more volume and though the pettiskirts are not normally lined, wanted to ensure the net fabric did not irritate the child's skin, hence has been fully underlined lined with satin fabric.

Back view of the skirt

The client had requested for additional 3 flowers made of ruffles to add to any other knit fabric top / t-shirt which she intended to buy with a cup cake motif printed on it. I hope the need doesn't arise with the sewn top itself matching the skirt to the T and the hope the applique is up to her satisfaction! what's your say?!

Technical specifications!

Size : Fits 20 inch chest and 20-24 inches waist
Price: Rs,1600 (Pettiskirt & Top )

Actually i had quoted much less price to the customer, and only after finished the outfit, did i realize the amount of time and effort went into making the skirt; but since i had given my word , i stuck to it and am giving it away to already quoted price to the customer . But for future pettiskirts, now i know how much to price them!
