Gold Brocade blouse + Windmill story!

At Salangai Poojai of one of the Disciples of darling daughter's dance school.


This gold brocade fabric had been lying for more than 1.5 years in my stash and at last has been made into a saree blouse. god! why did i not make it earlier, this could so easily be worn with so many sarees ... as usual better late than never, a nice addition to my wardrobe!

As i as doing the photoshoot for the blouse on our terrace, saw this windmill energy generator newly installed on the school campus, which happens to be the very next compound to our residential apartment! Darling Daughter's school is very eco-friendly and they have installed this alternative energy source as part of this concept and on the day after it got installed, about fortnight ago,, here is the conversation we had:

Me: Adithi, So, how is the windmill, do you like it?

Adithi: hmm... NO!

Me: Why?

Adithi: See amma, it is such a big fan, but of what use, we do not get any air from it at all ! 

I burst out laughing, so has everyone to whom i shared this convo! Kids are so precious , being innocence personified!

Saree Blouse with lots of bling!

Got embroidery work done on this Saree about 2 years ago! yes! this belongs to the long list of Forgotten Fabric lost in the long stash of fabric load. I had gifted this saree to my sister during last new year's eve (2011!)
Blouse was made yesterday! hmm happens ! better late than never isn't it!

Sister loves this color and infact got this plain georgette saree, on which Zardosi work was done by my dear friend Daisy, unfortunately i have lost contact with her and am able to reach her and i am still trying to trace her. Miss her handwork a lot. In fact, ever since i was unable to contact her, i have not done any project with surface embroidery on it! hope to find her soon!

The lace in the neckline has been added by me as the initial zari work along the neckline meant that shoulder width would be broader and the neck depth shorter than what my sister normaly wears, so unfortunately i had to cut out the work along the neckline and made up for it with the lace trim!

Mil's Saree Blouse on her B'day

Simple cotton saree and blouse but the piping around the neckline makes such a striking difference to the whole look. Another reason for me to stash all the left over bits .. hubby dearest are you reading this post...now you know the reason for ever growing fabric stash in my craft room! don't you ;)

This saree combination reminds me of one of the dialogues in my fav soap of the season , Iss Pyaar ko Kya Naam Doon, where in an imagination scene the hottie ASR blurts out to KKG for her query regarding the saree she is wearing, the same combination of green with yellow, he retorts instantly, pretty like Delhi's autorickshaws! how mean of ASR ins't it, but that's how he is and that's why so many of us love that character!

Saree Blouse - Bust Darts - Measurements

I had received mail from one of the readers with this query
how to measure  dart for saree blouse for  ripcage?For eg:this is my bust size. ~bust40 w. 34 ~ H.42~ back waist length  is 16.5 .can you s how me hoe get the bust dart please 




Thought of sharing it on the Adithis Amma Sews as it will help other readers as well


the things we need to know while marking out darts on front of the blouse are 


Main darts  width (center dart width)
Armhole dart measurements
Buttonside dart measurements




Let us first discuss about main darts

 Now let us see the armhole darts,

Now let us see the Button side darts,

For this reader based on her bust size (40 inches)

the dart measurements would be as follows

Center dart

X-O = 3.5inches

A-B= 3.0 inches

O-C = 3.0 inches

Armhole Dart

M-N= 1 inch

Length of armhole dart = 4.5 inches

Between C & L distance should be 2.5 inches

Button side dart 

Length = 2.5 inches

width = 1 inch (E-F)

Stitch the dart lines as straight lines to get perfect shape. Too much space between C & L will not give a perfect bust mound shape, so take care , make a test fit and alter measurements a little bit  by 1/4 inch give or take depending on your custom fit.

MIL's Birthday - Blouses for her!

Hello Readers,

Its been quite sometime 4 days to be precise since i posted, that is quite a loooong time for me..to be away from my blog. But personal commitments during the weekend did not let me plan my time well enough to post.

But i was sewing all along, blouses for my MIL to be worn on her birthday, which is today!

My DD made her grandma a cute little handmade card made using calendar sheet's reverse plain side!

Will be posting tips and tricks for saree blouse draft as many readers have requested the alterations to be made for custom fit. Hopefully before the weekend.

Talking about weekend, as i said earlier i was quite held up this weekend, becoz of which i am unable to post my What's Happening Weekend...but will make up for it by making the next weekend as one to remember!

Hello Dear Readers,

Back to sewing at last [Read: some sewing time - as my DD had school today :) ]

I was in no mood for any hand sewing so finished the neck of the back and front using lining itself as neck facing, then under stitched the lining to make them stay inside and then joined shoulder seams as i would in any kameez or kurta or dress... big hand work of finishing neck hem has been done away with :)

I had shared a few days back regarding my DD's latest crush being stickers...guess what is my latest crush, i the Photoshop, i have been meddling with it for a week now and here is one more sample of mine in Photoshop tried to cut out the back of the blouse separately to who it better.... i am still learning Photoshop so please bear with me....

yet to add hooks & loop closure, as i said no mood to do any hand sewing today... !

Will post the snaps of some of my sarees with which this Blouse will Rock by tomorrow
