V Day turned out to be day of mixed feelings for Adithi!

She was beaming in happiness, as she was meddling around with her dad's gift to her on Vday, a stencil kit and when i called out to her for a dress change (the new one made for her on this special day), there she was happy and singing out her favourite rhyme; She was all set and ready to go out and play; what happens next, in about 10 minutes i hear a scream and run downstairs to find her crying; she has hurt herself as she tried play the swing the wrong way and got hurt in the process.

I had intuition earlier and had warned her just before she went out to play, to be extra careful today and not play any of monkey tricks, and she did exactly just the opposite and got hurt. How i wish children would listen at ALL times! it is not that she does not listen all the time, in fact, she does listen and pay attention to what is being told, but at times does not put the word of advice into practice, i wonder why?

She has hurt her chin and her lower lip and when her aunt (my sis) got her these bouquets then she was back to her cheerful self and wanted a photo-shoot with the bouquets and also with those injury marks! kids! god bless them!

Still manages a bleak smile, kudos to her!

Below are the snaps that were taken, before she went out to play, all in the cheerful spirits ...

Fooling around in the Yoga mat!

and some dance practice!

and guess what she more worried about, "amma, my friends might tease me at school for this bruise on my chin!" i was taken aback for a moment, before i regained composure and explained it out to her, that friends are there to be with in difficult times and hence true friends won't tease and will only comfort you, so don't worry about those who do tease as they are not really your friends and after lot of pep talk, she did go to sleep!

Now about the details of the dress,

The dress was made using half metre !YES! of main printed fabric and piping was made using left over fabric from my sister's VDay dress. The yellow portion was taken from the fabric i had bought for self (god knows when i will make one!) The dress turned out to be bright, cheerful, colorful and fit for a kid to jump around in joy, though Adithi also had moments of despair while wearing it, she recovered soon to be her normal cheerful self!

Valentine's Day wishes ... 2 new outfits + 1 in WIP

Dear Readers,

Wish you all a very Happy Valentine's Day! Time to speak up and show the love we have in our hearts to our near and dear ones!

Made a kurta for my hubby , remember the different placket which was first posted in this Men's fashion post! tried it out, will try to perfect it even more in the next kurta, but over all i like the look of this Kurta.

My latest TV obsession being Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon and this outfit i made for sister has been inspired by the one worn by the female lead of the story Miss Kushi Kumari Guptaaaa! during the Mehendi scenes!

I took the snap from my Balcony as she was rushing to office, will post better snaps tonight!

Here is the inspiration dress pics (ran out of fabric hence 3/4 sleeves instead of the longer sleeves in the inspiration !

Cotton Candy Skirt !!!

Cotton Candy known as 'Panjumittaai' in Tamil is the word that came to my mind after finishing this poofy pettiskirt (albeit with just 2 layers as i had only 3 metres of net / tulle fabric - 2 of pale pink and 1 of bright pink)

This is my gift to my daughter for V-Day, albeit bit late, but it is better late than never isn't it. I started making this on VDay (Monday) and ended up finishing it only by Friday, my DD has still not fully recovered from an upset stomach and did not go to school since wednesday. I hope she gets well soon, it hurts to see her suffering, acidity at this age is just horrible, why because she started going to school full day for the past 10 days (before she started taking leave) and had to eat lunch on her own, which she doesn't like doing, and skipped, also feels stressed being at school for the whole day, the transition isn't over yet, anyone who knows pranic healing, please spend few valuable minutes of your time on my DD and wish her to get well soon, even if you aren't skilled healer, please do pray for her as all the good wishes will surely help her get back to normalcy.

Here i am typing this early in morning, i guess 5:30 AM now, will go back and hit snooze button, i squeezed in time to post before she gets up. Will be back to normal sewing days once she is fit and fine!

Next up i have planned to do Katori Blouse Sewing tutorial, hope you gals have checked 'Katori Pattern Drafting Tute' posted earlier

Valentine's Day Gifts!

Dress for my Sister

Simple yet chic cotton print, since it was close print all through, decided to separate it by manipulating darts which makes it fit along the bustline and the piping was added to differentiate the upper portion from lower half and the neck and sleeves have also been piped

New thing i have attempted in this is the use of extended sleeve cap. I have seen so many over the past 2 years in lot of fashion shows (on TV) and in Fashion magazines, when this extended shoulder trend was so much IN...

Decided to tweak the normal sleeve draft to make it work like extended sleeve cap, you can see the effect of it only in action shots (i shall post them soon), the shots which i have uploaded looks like they are just plain puff sleeves, which they are NOT.

Shirt for my Hubby

For the whole of last year i did not manage to sew a single outfit for my hubby. I felt very guilty and decided to make amends this year, it has begun well hope it continues

Here is a formal shirt (Half slacks, as i did not have enough material to make full sleeves, this material was gifted during some function by his cousin)

New things i have tried in his shirt are collar on bias and chevron shirt pockets...(Chevron stripes were also a result of lack of enough fabric, i used left over pieces then cut them on bias, stitched them together to form chevron stripes and thank god it was just enough to fit in the pocket.

Did you notice something???...Due to the nervousness that i didn't have enough fabric i forgot to align the sleeve cap stripes with shirt shoulder slope stripes!!!!

This year i have been guilty of not managing to sew something for my sweet little cutie pie , Adithi. In fact i begun sewing today, thinking i shall finish it off become she comes back from school, when i was in the middle of it, i got a call from school saying she is vomiting, so rushed to pick her up, she has an upset stomach is sleeping right now. So i need to wind this post up as of now, will post her dress once i finish it. Hope she recovers soon...

So how was your VDay so far!!! Remember today is the last day for participating in the Saree Blouse e-Pattern giveaway . Leave your entries! Best of luck readers! I shall announce the winner tomorrow!

VDay Gift for my Daughter

This fabric had been in WIP for long time. Just had to sew something special and VDay-ish for her and decided to use this one in red cotton with teddy bear print on it.

Features are Cross-bodice and Heart Motif patch pocket.
Frock itself is drop shoulder pattern (Self drafted) and has ties at back with hook closure.

Hope to get some action shots in V Day. Till then put up with these pics. Thanks
