Pretty in Pink!

Tunic Top made for sister using printed cotton. Isn't she looking pretty in pink?

Yesterday was my sister's friend's b'day and she wore a new dress for that! do we need excuses to flaunt new outfits, really! no way! may be this pretty in pink outfit peps her up and brings her good cheer!

Made use of left over fabric from the Bling Saree Blouse to create ruffles at the neckline and also for the piping at sleeve hem!

Are you able to see the flower motif made using the ruffles at the left side of the neckline! wish it was more appealing! but ran out of fabric to add more texture to ruffles! somehow i like it the way it is? what's say???

Saree Blouse with lots of bling!

Got embroidery work done on this Saree about 2 years ago! yes! this belongs to the long list of Forgotten Fabric lost in the long stash of fabric load. I had gifted this saree to my sister during last new year's eve (2011!)
Blouse was made yesterday! hmm happens ! better late than never isn't it!

Sister loves this color and infact got this plain georgette saree, on which Zardosi work was done by my dear friend Daisy, unfortunately i have lost contact with her and am able to reach her and i am still trying to trace her. Miss her handwork a lot. In fact, ever since i was unable to contact her, i have not done any project with surface embroidery on it! hope to find her soon!

The lace in the neckline has been added by me as the initial zari work along the neckline meant that shoulder width would be broader and the neck depth shorter than what my sister normaly wears, so unfortunately i had to cut out the work along the neckline and made up for it with the lace trim!

Valentine's Day wishes ... 2 new outfits + 1 in WIP

Dear Readers,

Wish you all a very Happy Valentine's Day! Time to speak up and show the love we have in our hearts to our near and dear ones!

Made a kurta for my hubby , remember the different placket which was first posted in this Men's fashion post! tried it out, will try to perfect it even more in the next kurta, but over all i like the look of this Kurta.

My latest TV obsession being Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon and this outfit i made for sister has been inspired by the one worn by the female lead of the story Miss Kushi Kumari Guptaaaa! during the Mehendi scenes!

I took the snap from my Balcony as she was rushing to office, will post better snaps tonight!

Here is the inspiration dress pics (ran out of fabric hence 3/4 sleeves instead of the longer sleeves in the inspiration !

Darling daughter's dress to  be made  yet and has to be ready before she comes back from school, so let me go back to sewing mood!

Yes it is ready now! more snaps tomorrow!

Ethnic Simple Kameez

Time for the action shot of Outfit no.2 ; she wore it today: yup 2 new outfits in as many days! lucky girl!

The kameez is pretty simple and outright ethnic, love the color and the zari (it was along the edge of the fabric)  the front is actually made of 2 pieces by joined at CF (Center Front) so that zari is meeting at CF and due to this i could also play with neck gaping that our petite bodies create whenever we have deep necklines~!  simple just tuck in more in CF seam right at the neckline point, simple no more gaping! The piping at neckline and sleeve hem have been made using leftover fabric - from my mom's saree blouse made about 3 months ago! yet another reason i can give for my never ending pile of bits and pieces of fabric! my answer to his standard query of "why don't you clear them away! ?"so how do i respond, with the truth of course, they will come in handy dear and they do, don't they! See i don't lie! he he

Sewing Mojo is back - 2 New Outfits!

Sewing Mojo is back and how , with a BANG!

2 outfits in one day!

Things are not so honky dory at personal front, happens right, that is part of life isn't it. so it had to get back to where i belong, to my sewing sessions, since it was kind of self-imposed sabbatical, the 2 outfits do not have much of design into them, but just wanted to get back to sewing, so simple design was also fine, something is better than nothing isn't it.

Now i shall be sewing lots more, with V'day coming up, lots of gifts to sew and also my fav soap Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon will spare me a few hours, i spend on its re-runs and youtube updates, çoz after a heart breaking spoiler / promo! I do not have the courage to see my fav love birds parting ways albeit in a soap! How melodramatic, isn't it, but that's how i am and that in fact is the only soap i watch and hence have kind of attachment to it and hence the withdrawal symptoms, but i have nothing to worry, Sewing is Therapy and here i am to relieve myself!

3 cheers , Sewing Mojo is here again!

Bow at the end was a last minute addition, guess for what, to easily identify the front and back ! yes! given the print and the pattern / design for the dress, wanted to help out my sister, and ensure that she doesn't end up wearing it the wrong way!

Boring pics i know, but the outfits will look lot better in person, will post them once my sister flaunts these outfits! Action Shots Click HERE

Wedding outfits - Day 2 continued ...

After the wedding ceremony was complete, we changed to our casual self!

Both the outfits were sewn by ... me!

Sister's Outfit:

Features

  • Kameez with curvy yoke with piping (used leftover fabric from my mom's Deepvali saree blouse! god aren't the left over fabrics worth their weight in gold!)
  • Puffy sleeves and piping at neckline as well !
  • Churidhaar bottom

My Outfit:

I loved the fabric the first time i set my eyes on it during our fabric shopping for Deepavali!

Features are just the same as my sister's outfit

  • Curvy yoke with piping
  • Neckline piping + Puff sleeves (this fabric holds the puff a lot better than my sister's , fabrics are always tricky, you never know (for sure!) as to what you will end up with, however i am pretty pleased with the Puff effect!)
  • Churidhaar for bottom and oh yes the bottom fabric was to die for, similar to glass tissue and that too in dual shades!
Oh yes! bought these sandals during Deepavali shopping and guess what they were the exact match for this outfit! i am getting it right with my footwear these days! yay!

And the bag belongs to my sister, just bagged it during the photoshoot!

Have i fallen in love with the outfit ! YES! I wore the same outfit , (the same evening ofcourse!) to meet the fabulous Magda. I have blogged about the meeting over here,

Fuchsia Pink Angarkha!

We had bought this bright Fuschia pink, printed bandhini style fabric about a month back, while shopping for Adithi's B'day outfit fabrics (a month ago!), after all the wedding festivities and lazing around, when i got back my sewing Mojo on Monday, i started searching through the fabric stash and suddenly this fabric spoke to me! yes indeed, fabrics do speak to me, and i think they do so with every sewista! so there it was calling out to me, crying for my attention, i decided to lend an ear and kept gazing at it for about a couple of minutes, hmm, then started rummaging through the stash yet again....

This time it was for the leftover bit of white bling fabric, which i thought would complement this fabric as well as add a contrast to it and ensure that the pink does NOT overwhelm our petite frame and dusky skin tone. The leftover fabric is from the first ever ball gown i made for my daughter when she was hardly 2 years old , that was more than 3 years back! see another good excuse for me to confront my hubby when he asks me get rid of the ever piling scraps ;)

So the now fabric is there, contrast fabric is also there, so what next, ... the BIG Question, what should i sew~now? hmm i read in this month's Harper's Bazar (Special collectors issue!) titled Angarkha Advent! Yes,  Angarkhas are back with a bang and are seen in runways in varied styles! Now Angarkha is our Indian Vintage with its roots dating back to Mughal era!.

So it is an Angarkha and that too a bright and bubbly one for my sister! Would you like to make one for  yourself, try this Tutorial @ Adithis Amma Sews

I have similar fabric in shade of cheery bright yellow, which i plan to sew for self, but not sure if it would be an Angarkha, may be or may be NOT, wait and watch..

P.S. Thanks for bearing with absence for a week, i was back on last friday but was unable to logon, thanks to the BSNL guys for having our phone line (along with broadband) down for the past 5 days and still counting, so wondering how i am typing this post, my hubby dearest has been so generous to get me a TATA PhotonPlus data card after having seen my restlessness due to my inability to access my blog and talk to all you lovely readers! Thanks hubby dearest! Though this one is bit slower than the broadband i have, i will take it as long as i am able to connect at least as temporary recourse!

So here i am and have loads to catch up with online, loads of posts to come, with delicious wedding snaps and style bits ofcourse!

For tutorials lined up, let me finish all those pending viz., bubble skirt with twisted bubble instructions and the simple salwar (dance class uniform, remember!)

(in)Humane beings who mock at others!

Having fun at someone's expense! sounds creepy and mean isn't it, but there are loads of (in)humane beings doing that every day, for years,  on and on ...

Making fun of someone's physical appearance is the one of the meanest and cheapest thing a human being can do. After all god has been given us the physical appearance and we cannot claim the credit of being beautiful nor can we be admonished for being 'not so beautiful'. As they say, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and everyone is beautiful in their own way.

Who is flawless? well none! but why do some poeple (actually most) do not understand this and can't stop themselves from pointing out someone's physical appearance and don't even realize that they are actually hurting the other person. Isn't this inhumane to be cynical for no reason.

This thought has crossed my mind, several times in all these years, i had been ridiculed during my school and college days with questions like do you even eat, how come you don't fly when heavy wind blows and doesn't your bones prick you; i mean come on, what do they achieve by saying these things except for hurting the concerned person's feelings and may be even do damage for their self-confidence, initially these things used to hurt and later i realized to ignore such people, and in the process i have now realized that i have secluded myself in the quest to avoid such people (loads of them in my aparatment colony!) and find myself without many acquaintances, leave alone friends within the apartment complex!

Why am i talking about all this suddenly today, well day before yesterday my sister wore the saree i had gifted to her this Deepvali, she was looking nice and fine and looked beautiful to me, well to some of those nosy, mean neighbours it was a chance to spill venom yet again to bring down our high spirits as they shouted out to her saying 'please take care as it is windy today, coz you may fly away!' i mean .. come on .. grow up, don't you have common sense, how can some just fly away!, you have better jobs to do, than just lounge around in the corridor , gossiping away, i seriously wish they had something to do, and that too from people who are no beauty queens themselves by no means, when will this syndrome end, god knows, i have learnt to tackled it one sure strong way - IGNORE, even if you shot back, their habit of mocking at others, gets an impetus feeding on the reaction!

here is the outfit picture of her , isn't she looking nice and pretty, i am not saying this just because she is my sister, but because i firmly believe that she is beautiful, due to the fact that everyone is beautiful, and for you see to it, you need to have a beautiful heart ...

I have been telling Adithi to snub back at anyone who makes fun of her physcial appearance, something like you are lean, oh so small and so on, and never take any of it to heart, she seems to have understood and shot back at one of their annoying nosy neighbour who commented on her when she was on the swing; Here is their conversation ....

Adithi, you seem to be so small please do not swing so fast, lest you may fly away, see my son (name not mentioned out of kindness as i do not intend to return the mean attitude shown by them!) is of same age as you and is so hale and healthy (i might as well say big and plump if you are talking of dimensions!) for which Adithi said, i am not small its just that your son is too big for his age, hence looks bigger than me! God , i know it is bit sadistic, but wasn't i happy to hear this, i was, i really was, as i realized that my daughter is now ready to take on the big bad mean world of nosy gossip mongers and cheap teasers! Thank God!

Birthday Gift for my Sister.

My Sister's b'day was on 23rd, remember the little poem (or something similar i had attempted, excuse me its been almost a decade since i wrote a poem!) i dedicated for her b'day.

Here are the snaps at last. The outfit is made of silk cotton and brocade. Do you feel like you have seen this brocade earlier on Adithis Amma Sews. You are bang on. it is left over from my DD's Birthday Ball Gown, which perfectly went in sync with this dark green silk cotton fabric!

Tried drafting a new pattern by manipulating darts and getting the fit in the form of yoke.  Quite happy with the result.

Anyone interested in drafting of this style of kameez / dress, if there any takers, shall post a mini-tute on the drafting part of it.

Happy Birthday Dear Sister.

Happy Birthday Little Sister Graphi Pictures
Birthday Graphics & Tumblr Backgrounds

Another year rolls by,
A Year which was filled with lots of banter and chatter,
Did i mention endless arguments?!
We grow together as sisters don't we ?! Really ... are we grown up? or still two little sisters fighting over silly things!
Though the time we share together is much less than our childhood days, we have never grown apart. This is one relationship i will cherish forever for its sheer rawness where we face each other unmasked, no pretense, no compulsions, no formalties.

Little sister, Wish you a Happy Birthday. May god bless you with good health, keep you in good spirits and give you joy abound all around. Take care

For all my lovely readers out there, please do wish my sister on her b'day and pray for her health and happiness, Thank you.

Now it's time for b'day present isn't it, and what would a 'sew addict' gift, an outfit ofcourse, i will post action pics soon. watch out.

Bleed Blue Hearts Kurta !

Looks like I am Bleeding Blue for a while now..still basking in Cricket World Cup euphoria i guess :)

I made this Kurta for my sister. I love the print and since it is a busy print decided to keep the silhouette plain and simple with a bust dart and waist dart at front and a waist dart at the back. The bucket neck kind of suits her isn't it. The blue trim was an act of improvisation and as i found the Kurta to be too plain and decided to jazz it up!

Blow away the Blues Dress !

I made this outfit for my sister last week.

Simple Cotton material with small print, hence decided to add pleats to the skirt part to give volume. The mini-scallop patch is actually an external layer on the neck line to enhance the viewer's interest and the sleeves are 3/4 with slits which have been duly embellished with contrast fabric used in the neckline.

Features of the outfit are

  • Full Pleated Skirt portion
  • Princes seam bodice
  • Mini-scallop layer at the neckline
  • 3/4 Sleeves with Contrast Slits

Earthy Tunic Top Kameez for Sister

I can't exactly call this kurta as is this more of A-Line Frock type. So calling this as Tunic top kind of kameez.

My Sister was supposed to go to Amsterdam the next weekend, but it got delayed until June. I had started preparing a wardrobe revamp for her during her stay in Netherlands. Hence tried bit of close neck ones. But i guess it was too close for comfort, as she leaves it unbuttonned to face the sweltering heat in chennai.

Features of the Dress are
  • Princess Seam with elastic corded piping
  • Embellished vent at sleeves
  • Piped neckline
  • Ruffled Hemline

Lilac Kameez Set - Layered Beauty!

In the sneak peak post i had mentioned my design idea for this dress being 'Layered Look'

So have a first view of the '2' different looks one for summer and one for all seasons (ahem, winters here in chennai aren't that cold so this dress can be easily worn with the coat during the day!)

First Look-Summery breezy sleeveless kameez

Second Look - Sheer coat which adds zing to the outfit...

Action shots will do better justice to the dress and you will get to see it with the churidhaar to get the feel of the entire outfit....will post them when my sister flaunts this outfit in style!

Sister wears Saree - For the first time to her office

Had stitched a gold color blouse (generic and can be mix matched easily). Sister had not worn a saree to office till date and this blouse, may be urged her to wear it and she did, even though the saree and blouse don't match exactly, these days it is so chic to be seen in contrast blouse and saree, nevertheless it looked so good on her.

my little sister has grown so big, time flies....
